Universal Transmitter Programming (Fixed Code) — Early Build (Homelink®)

NOTE:

A new battery in the hand-held transmitter may allow quicker and easier training due to a more accurate transmission of the radio frequency signal.

NOTE:

This procedure is for early build vehicles only.

  1. Verify the hand-held transmitter is operative by pressing a button and observing the illumination of the indicator on the hand-held transmitter.
  1. Turn the ignition to the ON position.
  1. Prepare for programming the universal transmitter by erasing all 3 channels by holding down the 2 outside buttons until the red light begins to flash (20-30 seconds). Release both buttons.

  1. Select 1 of the 3 universal transmitter buttons to be used for programming.
  1. Hold the end of the hand-held transmitter 25-51 mm (1-2 in) from the front surface of the universal transmitter so that the red light on the universal transmitter can still be seen.
  1. NOTE:

During programming, the hand-held transmitter may automatically stop transmitting after 2 seconds, which may not be long enough to program the universal transmitter. If programming with this type of hand-held transmitter, continue to hold the button on the universal transmitter while pressing and releasing the hand-held transmitter button every 2 seconds.

At the same time, press the hand-held transmitter button and the desired button on the universal transmitter until the red light on the universal transmitter flashes first slowly, and then rapidly. Release both buttons when the rapid flashing begins.

  1. Firmly press and hold for 5 seconds and release the just-trained universal transmitter button up to 2 separate times to activate the garage door. If, after 2 separate times, the garage door still does not activate, press and hold the just-trained universal transmitter button and observe the red indicator light.
    • If the red indicator light stays on constantly, the programming is complete and the device should activate when the universal transmitter button is pressed and released.
    • If the red indicator light blinks rapidly for 2 seconds and then turns to a constant light, carry out the Training a Garage Door Opener Equipped With "Rolling Codes" — Early Build procedure to complete the programming of a rolling code-equipped device (most commonly a garage door opener).

Universal Transmitter Programming (Rolling Code) — Early Build (Homelink®)

NOTE:

It may be helpful to have an assistant with this procedure.

  1. At the garage door opener receiver (the motor-head unit) in the garage, locate the "learn" or "smart" button. This can usually be found near where the hanging antenna wire is attached to the motor-head unit; or it may be under the light bulb cover of the motor-head unit.
  1. Turn the ignition to the ON position.
  1. NOTE:

Step 4 must be initiated within 30 seconds of pressing and releasing the "learn" or "smart" button.

Firmly press and release the "learn" or "smart" button. (The name and color of the button may vary by manufacturer).

  1. Return to the vehicle and firmly press, hold for 2 seconds and release the programmed universal transmitter button. Repeat the press/hold/release sequence a second time and depending on the brand of the garage door opener (or other rolling code-equipped device), repeat this sequence a third time to complete the programming process.

Universal Transmitter Programming (Rolling Code) — Late Build (Lear Car2U®)

WARNING: To avoid
the risk of serious injury from the door closing, make sure that people and objects are clear of the garage door opener or security device that is being programmed. When programming a garage door, it is advised to park outside of the garage.

NOTE:

Read the instructions completely before attempting to program the Lear Car2U® System. Because of the steps involved, it may be helpful to have an assistant when programming the universal transmitter. Programming the rolling code garage door opener involves time-sensitive actions. Read the entire procedure before beginning so the procedure can be carried out in a timely fashion. If the time-sensitive actions are not carried out in a timely fashion, the device times out and the procedure needs to be repeated.

NOTE:

Make sure to keep the original remote control transmitter for use in other vehicles as well as for future Lear Car2U® System programming. It is only needed for fixed code device programming.

NOTE:

This procedure is for rolling code devices. In order to determine if you have a fixed code or a rolling code device, open the garage door opener transmitter and if there is a panel of coded dip switches present, the device is a fixed code device. If there are no coded dip switches present, the device is a rolling code device.

  1. Turn the ignition to the ON position.
  1. At the same time, firmly press the 2 outside Lear Car2U® System buttons for 1-2 seconds, then release the buttons.
  1. NOTE:

Step 4 must be initiated within 30 seconds of pressing and releasing the "learn" or "smart" button.

At the garage door opener receiver (the motor-head unit) in the garage, locate the "learn" or "smart" button. This can usually be found near where the hanging antenna wire is attached to the motor-head unit; or it may be under the light bulb cover of the motor-head unit.

    • For technical assistance, refer to the Owner's Literature.
  1. Return to the vehicle and firmly press and hold for 5-20 seconds the universal transmitter button that is desired to be programmed. During this time, the selected button red indicator light blinks slowly. Once the garage door begins to move, within one second, release the button. With the button released, the red indicator light begins to blink rapidly until programming is complete. Repeat the press/hold/release sequence a second time and depending on the brand of the garage door opener (or other rolling code equipped device), repeat this sequence a third time to complete the programming process.
  1. After successful programming, the Lear Car2U® System operates the garage door opener using the button that was programmed. The red indicator light in front of the programmed button illuminates to confirm the Lear Car2U® System is responding (and is programmed) to the button command.

Erasing the Lear Car2U® System Buttons (Rolling Code) — Late Build

  1. To erase the rolling code programming from the Lear Car2U® System, turn the ignition key to the on position, firmly press and hold the 2 outside Lear Car2U® System buttons at the same time for approximately 20 seconds until the 3 red indicator lights begin to blink rapidly.
  1. When the 3 red indicator lights begin to blink, release the buttons. The codes for all of the 3 buttons are erased.

Universal Transmitter Programming (Fixed Code) — Late Build (Lear Car2U®)
