Ford Focus Service Manual: Intermediate Shaft

Removal

  1. Remove the RH halfshaft and intermediate shaft assembly. For additional information, refer to Halfshaft — RH in this section.
  1. Position the intermediate shaft in a soft-jawed vise.
  1. NOTE:

    Do not damage the boot.

    Detach the RH front drive halfshaft from the intermediate shaft.

    • Remove the large boot clamp and slide back the boot.
    • Pull out the front drive halfshaft from the tripod housing.

Installation

  1. Install the required amount of grease in the CV joint housing.
  1. Position the tripod in the housing.
    1. Push the tripod to the bottom of the housing.
    1. Position the boot clamp on the boot.

  1. NOTICE: Use care not to damage the boot or component damage may occur.

    Install the front halfshaft.

    1. Insert a small screwdriver under the boot seat to allow the air to escape.
    1. Slide the tripod joint in as far as possible, then pull it out 20 mm (0.787 in).
    • Remove the screwdriver.

  1. Install the boot clamp using the Constant Velocity Joint Boot Clamp Installer.

  1. Install the RH halfshaft and intermediate shaft assembly. For additional information, refer to Halfshaft — RH in this section.
